Position Announcement

The Board of Directors of the Piscataquog Land Conservancy (PLC), formerly the Piscataquog Watershed Association, seeks an accomplished land protection professional to serve as Executive Director for this growing conservation organization.

The Organization:
Since 1970 the Piscataquog Land Conservancy has worked with landowners and community leaders in south central New Hampshire to conserve the scenic and natural environment of 11 communities in the Piscataquog River Watershed. In recent years the PLC has grown from a small grassroots, volunteer association to a well-respected regional land trust protecting nearly 4,000 acres on 50 easement and 14 fee-owned properties. PLC recently completed a collaborative $3.4 million capital campaign to protect 1,000 acres in Francestown, Greenfield and Lyndeborough, NH. In addition to the Executive Director, the organization has 2 part time staff; a Development Director and a Membership Coordinator, as well as many active volunteers. The Executive Director will be charged with leading the Board, staff, members, and key partners of the PLC through the next stage of organizational development, marked by increased capacity and greater operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Job Description:
She/He will

  • Provide informed and dynamic leadership with a strong vision for land protection, balanced by practical realism and attention to detail.
  • Direct and implement land protection and stewardship programs including funding, negotiating, drafting documentation, processing and closing projects.
  • Coordinate project funding from multiple sources: federal, state, municipal, foundation, and private.
  • Lead development efforts including capital campaigns, annual giving, major donor development, planned giving and all supporting communication necessary to produce results while leveraging the skills and talents of staff.
  • Direct employee and volunteer day-to-day implementation of program and development activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors (BOD) and its volunteer committees.
  • Represent the PLC to its constituencies, including town conservation commissions and municipal boards, other conservation organizations, state agencies and the general public.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have

  • A strong commitment to principles of conservation and land protection.
  • Demonstrated success working with landowners, drafting conservation easements and directing stewardship activities.
  • Familiarity with Land Trust Standards and Practices.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and revenue generation for small nonprofits, including developing relationships with individual donors, land owners, foundations and corporate supporters.
  • Sound financial sense, good understanding of standard accounting practices.
  • Ability to think strategically, highest ethical standards.
  • Experience with/commitment to setting and monitoring high team-performance standards.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the story of the organization and its cause.
